Throughout my time spent at Dynamicland, I brought my user experience research & design skills to the work. One of the most important aspects I ushered into the team's process is to build in space for feedback from many different people in many different ways.
My focus was on Oakland's education community, and I held co-creation sessions with teachers and playtesting events with students in order to understand how they might use the platform as a tool for learning, taking in their feedback to iterate and build out certain features.
Radical Learning Workshops
One of the longer term programs at Dynamicland was a series of workshops on the future of education. This workshop aimed to center teachers' experiences and learn from them to build a vision of what the future of education might be.
I initiated and led the project in all aspects from user research to prototyping to project management, creating project timelines, acquiring grant funding, and producing events to showcase the visions created by the teachers.
One part of leading the project was working closely with an educator, Page Teamey, to create the workshop sessions. From collaborating with Paige, understanding her visions for education and connecting with other teachers, I was able to build out various prototypes for the workshop participants to use in their sessions.
We iterated on these tools multiple times to build out a communication tool that educators can use for live presentations, and presented the teacher's visions of the future, along with other educational projects, at a showcase event that brought in over 50 educators to Dynamicland in one evening.
